Case study Lehmann Metalltechnik GmbH

Complexity under control -knowingwhen what runs where!

Lehmann Metalltechnik GmbH from Neustadt in East Saxony has been in business for more than 150 years. Among its customers, the medium-sized company enjoys an excellent reputation as a supplier of heavy-duty, safety-relevant assemblies. The reasons for this performance lie not least in many years of experience, the highest quality and continuous investment in state-of-the-art machinery and processes. In order to secure this level in the long term, to gain more flexibility and to prevail over the competition, Lehmann Metalltechnik relies on an innovative MES from PROXIA. In an extremely complex manufacturing environment, this solution provides the company with transparency and room to maneuver.

“With PROXIA, we now also uncover “hidden times”, such as lay times or QA inspections. We have successfully started to consistently lower these to become even faster in the production process.”

Complex Manufacturing Efficiently Managed – with PROXIA MES at Lehmann Metalltechnik

Industry

Lehmann Metalltechnik GmbH is a family-run supplier for the machinery, automotive, and rail vehicle industries. With a high level of vertical integration and numerous welding certifications, the company manufactures complex, safety-critical assemblies containing up to 150 individual parts. Each component follows its own, often intricate, production path. The demands for quality, traceability, and on-time delivery are exceptionally high—hallmarks of highly customized single-item and small-batch production.

Problem

The high volume of orders, varying personnel qualifications, and interdependent processing steps made paper-based production control increasingly inefficient. Precise coordination was especially critical in the welding department, where only certified specialists were authorized to perform certain tasks. Without digital support, unclear responsibilities, time-consuming documentation, and the lack of real-time data led to delays, planning uncertainty, and a growing need for coordination.

Solution

With PROXIA MES, the BDE, control station, and PEP modules were implemented. Today, shop floor data collection ensures seamless feedback directly from the machines. The control station provides simulation-capable detailed planning across all production areas and enables dynamic control even in the face of short-term changes. Personnel deployment planning (PEP) helps assign qualified personnel to specific orders and adds flexibility to shift planning during peak workloads—including documentation of all relevant certifications.

Result

By implementing PROXIA MES, Lehmann Metalltechnik has significantly improved production transparency and control. The paper-light manufacturing process reduces sources of error and eases the workload for employees. Delivery deadlines can now be met with much greater reliability. At the same time, the system enables precise traceability of which employees performed which tasks with which qualifications—a crucial advantage for quality assurance and certification. With PROXIA, the company is digitally equipped to meet future growth and the highest demands in contract manufacturing.
